A Regional Center for Health Care

The Greater Huntington Area is truly a leader in advanced health care and a major referral center for the tri-state region of West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky. The region features two major teaching hospitals, a medical school, a Veterans Affairs medical center, a behavioral health hospital, a rehabilitation hospital, several large multi-specialty physician groups, private physician practices and allied health education and training programs. The Greater Huntington Area offers state-of-the-art medical care for patients, education opportunities for students with an interest in the healthcare field and thousands of jobs for residents of the community.

Medical Community Organizations

American Lung Association of West Virginia provides legislative advocacy and regulatory advocacy regarding health issues; financial support for pertinent research regarding lung health; and information, films and speakers on the topics of lung disease, smoking and air pollution.

Cabell-Huntington Health Department assesses the community's health needs, forms policies to address those needs, assures the public accessibility to proper health care, and abates those environmental hazards that effect the health of the community, promotes health and prevents disease, and educates the community on public health issues.

The Huntington Medical Education Foundation (HMEF) is a united effort among hospitals and physicians to promote Huntington as a regional referral center for tertiary health care to neighboring community hospitals. The HMEF is equally funded by Cabell Huntington Hospital and St. Mary's Medical Center. They support Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, Department of Continuing Medical Education Outreach Conferences, providing continuing medical education to rural physicians and hospitals throughout the Tri-State region.

West Virginia State Medical Association is a physician-based organization which focuses on public health issues, strives to provide the highest level of continuing medical education, and seeks to promote the time honored commitment of the medical profession while improving the quality of life for West Virginians.

The Alzheimer's Association, West Virginia Chapter: nearly 4.5 million Americans have Alzheimer's disease. More than 48,000 of them are in this Chapter service area. Whether you are the person with Alzheimer's disease, a family member, caregiver, friend, or medical professional, they want you to know they are here for you.

NAMI West Virginia is the statewide non-profit, tax-exempt organization of family support advocacy groups comprised of fourteen affiliates across the Mountain State. These local groups offer understanding, encouragement and mutual support to all who are faced with a serious and persistent mental illness of loved ones. Those with a mental illness are also encouraged to join the organization. It is an affiliate of NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, in Arlington, Virginia. The focus of the state group is on advocacy, education, and support.
